Terms of service

These terms cover your use of Roughcut, a Chrome extension operated by Swati Mitra ("we"). By installing or using it, you agree to them.

The service

Roughcut uses AI to summarize YouTube videos, split them into chapters, and suggest moments for short clips. It works from the public video you're viewing and produces text — it does not download, copy, or re-host video.

AI-generated output

Summaries, chapters and clip suggestions are generated by an AI model and can be wrong. They may miss points, misstate what was said, or give timestamps that are slightly off. Don't rely on them for decisions where accuracy matters without checking the source video.

Plans and billing

• The free plan includes 5 uses per month. Results served from our shared cache don't count toward this.
• Paid plans are monthly subscriptions billed in advance. Each renewal adds that month's credits; unused plan credits don't roll over. Plans renew automatically until you cancel.
• Credit packs are a one-time purchase. Their credits can be used for 12 months.
• One credit covers one video up to 15 minutes. Longer videos use two, and only their first 30 minutes are analyzed.
• Payments are processed by Dodo Payments as merchant of record, who may add sales tax or VAT for your country.
• You can cancel anytime. Credits you've already received stay usable until the end of the period you've paid for.
• We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice. Changes apply from your next billing period.

Acceptable use

Don't use Roughcut to get around the free tier through automated or bulk requests, to interfere with the service, or to reverse-engineer or resell it. We may suspend access that does.

YouTube and third-party content

Roughcut is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google. Videos belong to their creators. You're responsible for how you use any content — including making sure you have the right to post clips you cut from someone else's video.

Availability

We aim to keep Roughcut running but can't promise it will always be available or error-free. It depends on YouTube and on AI services outside our control, and features may change.

Liability

Roughcut is provided "as is." To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Ending use

You can stop using Roughcut anytime by removing the extension and cancelling any subscription. We may end the service with reasonable notice to paying subscribers.
